Everyone, somewhere in their minds, has a list of things they plan to do before they die. Jump from an aeroplane, climb mount Everest, jump and climb Stacey Dooley1 and make her cry, you know the stuff.
So apart from jumping and climbing2 Stacey Dooley and making her cry, what else is on my list? Well, of course I can't tell you that, I've already gone far too far. But then, how much is too far?
One of the things I will admit to wanting to do a lot of before I die is lamb tikka.
Doesn't sound like much really does it? It's not too much to confess - having a penchant for lamb tikka. I don't think I'm going to hell for this. Everyone likes lamb tikka, if you don't, then you are obviously very, very strange.
There's a problem with lamb tikka though - you never get enough. If you go out for a curry and have it for a starter, you always wish you had more. If you order a big portion for a main course, you still wish you had more. There is never enough.
So on my list of things to do before I die is to eat so much lamb tikka that I don't want to eat any more. How much is that? How much lamb tikka would be enough?
Today I made a lot. I had a leg of lamb which was on special offer from Morrisons and cut most of this up. The fatty bits I've cut into pieces and frozen for a biryani, navarin or cawl and the bits which were really lean, I cut into big chunks and made lamb tikka. I think there was about half a kilo of lamb on my skewers and it was marinaded really long to ensure it was as tender as a mother sheep's love. Sad, but delicious.
So was there enough lamb tikka?
Too much is never enough.
I had eight big cubes to begin with - probably 300g (10oz). After this I was lucky as Isis didn't want hers saying they were too spicy (lucky me) so I had those too. And was this enough?
Too much is never enough.
I want some now. My teeth are aching with the thought of tasty meat. I need meat. Lamb, baby sheep, bring me my spicy flesh!
I'm not joking here. I've eaten about a pound of lamb tikka and still want more. Next time I'll do a whole leg - if I save a bit of cash first of course.
After our meaty dinner we went for an ice cream but on the way Isis tripped over and bashed her face on the concrete. It wasn't serious, but her nose and lip were bleeding, so Isis and me had to come home. Toni continued with Eve and Olias and as the ice cream shop is only a few minutes away, managed to bring us back a tub.
Next time I'll ask Toni to bring back a kebab as well.
1We all know she'd sob a bit, as she always does, but this time it would be her in pain, not some poor people she's reporting on.
2I've invented something new here, but we all know what I mean.
