Diary and Notes

Our road trip continues.

Today we are driving to stay with some friend’s – Gavin and Judith who live in the parts of Wales that people like me don’t normally go to – mostly as we would never know it existed. The house is in the middle of nowhere on a road so impossible to find that the last time we went there, we spent over an hour driving around country lanes completely lost but never more than two miles from the house.

We packed up our forty or so bags of clothes and the left over chocolate cake then took the kids for a play in the ‘Adventure Centre’ for an hour before heading off. But of course we didn’t go straight to visit our friends, first we had to stop in a small market town called Narbeth for lunch and to buy a present for one of Isis’s friends who is having a party tomorrow.

Gavin and Judith have always put on an excellent feast every time I’ve been there before and I was expecting no less. Also, they have a six year old daughter and a three year old son and make an effort to sit and eat as a family every day, perfectly in keeping with my blog. Was today any exception?

No it wasn’t. A home cooked lasagne – cooked by Gavin I should add, garlic bread and salad. The three girls sat at a small table as there wasn’t enough room for us all to sit together but everyone ate together and chatted happily while munching. Gavin was worried the lasagne would be too salty but it tasted mighty fine to me.

Sing ho for the Welshman and his tasty pasta.

We also had some left over chocolate cake and ice cream and I was feeling very happy.

I was planning to have a shower after dinner - as with all the packing and playing in the morning I didn’t get time, but due to a local farmer accidentally chopping the village’s water pipe in two, the water was cut off and I had to go to bed slightly smelly and in need of a shave.

(A dirty man with a belly full of lasagne is contentment indeed.)

After the lasagne we ate more of yesterday's chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. Fantastic.
