I am cursed! Yes it's true and the curse is no ordinary gypsy magic making me come out in boils or floppy willy syndrome. This is serious.
You may think I am joking but the curse of Tutan Loot'em has come back. I thought I was rid of this, but as with all ancient Egyptian curses, you are never safe. I'd rather a fatwah from the Ayatollah Khomeni.
The curse began some years ago. When Isis was nearly three we started buying little games to play together. Of course at this age she was too young to really understand what was going on, but I thought that introducing them early would breed a sort of familiarity with rolling dice and holding cards, leading to her eventually understanding how to win at poker and roulette, thus netting us millions in cash.
It's all part of my cunning plan to get rich off my kids.
But we didn't reckon with the curse of Tutan Loot'em.
We bought a little set of four farmyard jigsaws in a box - Isis loved them. Jigsaws were a mainstay for her for almost a year. Included in the box was a flyer for other games and puzzles in the range and Isis used to look at the pictures and ask me to tell her what they were. All very good and educational, reading together, playing...
But one game in particular captured her imagination - Tutan Loot'em (link in title above). A card game for 5+ year olds. I told her over and over again she was too young but she never stopped. Tutan Loot'em drove me mad.
Eventually the curse seemed to go away. No more the haunting mummies and gods of old.
But it came back. On a trip to the Manchester Museum about a year later, Isis saw a box up high on a shelf and something in her mind clicked - it was the game - she had seen it, she remembered. It started again. "Can we get Tutan Loot'em?"
We didn't buy it that day - it was somewhat pricey at the museum but she persisted for weeks and eventually we relented and bought it from Busy Bee Toys in Chorlton (slightly cheaper than the museum). We played it a few times and, although it was fun, she moved on to other things.
But now it is back.
And with a vengance too.
Yesterday, Toni and Isis were playing the game and now she is obsessed again - to the point that dinner went Tutan Loot'em crazy.
Nobody could eat. Nobody.
Instead of sitting at the table, Eve and Isis 'needed' to decorate the kitchen with Tutan Loot'em cards. They were everywhere. Fights ensued over who got which cards, blue-tac was spread over the cupboards and walls, dinner as almost a disaster zone. Olias was tired and fell asleep but the noise of the Tutan Loot'em madness woke him up and he cried. Instead of sitting for dinner, I had to carry him on my shoulder and eat standing. All the while, Eve and Isis ran round my feet, sticking and shouting and giggling.
So really, apart from an ancient Egyptian curse coming back in the form of minor irritations, nothing at all to report today.
Have a fine weekend.
I started making cassoulet earlier today but didn't finish it. As I was in a real hurry with dinner I used the pork belly I had cooked in stock, onion, carrot etc. and served this with some pasta. The green pesto I bought, the tomato pesto I chopped some sun dried tomatoes and added some Sacla tomato pesto. The mushroom sauce was just garlic, mushrooms, olive oil, a little wine and cream. No recipe today as it's all just quick and cheating.
