Back to Feeding The Five (click here)

Diary and Notes

There was a by election in Corby some moons ago which made the news because of reasons completely unrelated to food. It has been back in the news today, all due to a fantastic man called Mr. Mozzarella.

Mr. Mozzarella is briliant - anyone who doesn't love him must be odd. His message is a little unusual however and only managed to secure him 73 votes (0.7%, slightly more than the Liberal Democrats are predicted at the next election, but still nowhere near a win). Shame.

He was standing as the representative of the Don't Cook Party - which is actually funded by an online take away delivery service Just Eat. It transpired today that it cost them almost £1000 per vote - expensive even in today's harsh political climate. You could argue for money creeping into politics, the corruption of our democratic system, or the trivialisation of what should be a serious event (it's not of course) but since there was absolutely no way he was ever going to be elected and it was all just a clever advertising gimmick for the delivery people, who's to complain?

You have to take your hat off to Just Eat for coming up with such an excellent marketing idea.

As politicians go, Mr. Mozzaralla's charisma is abundent, but sadly, his message was wasted on me. As you can probable guess a political party advocating not cooking your own dinner is as far from my own views as could possibly be.

I'd still vote for him over UKIP though.

Menu
  • Beef Stroganoff
  • Chips

  • Ice Cream and Chocolate Straws

    Ingredients*

    Beef Stroganoff
    300g Top Rump of Beef
    100g Mushrooms
    1 Onion
    1 tsp Dijon Mustard
    1 TBSP Tomato Puree
    ½ Glass White Wine
    100ml Sour Cream
    Squirt Lemon Juice
    1/2 tsp Paprika
    1 Tbsp Sunflower Oil
    50g Butter
    Black Pepper
    Flat Leaf Parsley

Note: For some bizarre reason everybody who does beef stroganoff always serves it with rice. It was traditionally served with very thin fried potatoes and that is how we do things here.

    Preparation

  • Beef Stroganoff: (A heavy bottomed wok is good for cooking this.) Slice the beef into very thin slices. Brown really well in a little sunflower oil (in small batches so as not to stew) then remove from the pan. Wipe out the pan then slice the onions and fry in the butter (not too hot or the butter will burn and go sour). When the onions are soft add the mushrooms, paprika, wine, tomato purée and lemon juice. Bubble away for two minutes then add the cream and return the beef (and any juices), let this warm through, then add pepper and parsley.

    Today's Ratings:

    Isis: Chips - Yum.
    Eve: Yuk.
    Olias: Yum.
